About the Club - History

Picture
The Garden Club of Mount Prospect was organized May 8, 1963. The club's meetings, programs and projects are designed to carry out the vision of the founding members' mission statement to "encourage interest in gardening and horticulture, artistic use of plant materials, civic beauty and conservation of natural resources."

The purpose of the club was, and still is, to keep Mount Prospect beautiful. Over its more than 50 years of service, it has accomplished its goal. In 1997, the club was named a "Shining Star" for beautification to the Village and again in 2011 for the Green Thumb Award Program. In 2018 the mayor of Mount Prospect issued a proclamation during National Garden Week that lauded the contributions of the Club to the village.

  • Founded in 1963
  • Member of the National Garden Clubs, Inc., Central Division
  • Member of the Garden Clubs of Illinois, Inc., District IX
  • Supports local, national and international gardens and environmental projects

In addition to its very important public projects, the Club also supports the village Arbor Day, the Friendship Park Conservatory of the Mt. Prospect Park District, the Mount Prospect Public Library and Flint Creek Wildlife Rehabilitation, Barrington, IL. The Club is a member of the  Chicago Botanic Garden and Citizens for Conservation, Barrington, IL.

The club's meetings are fun and informative, providing opportunities for members to socialize and make new friends. We offer members and guests interesting programs on a wide variety of topics presented by experts in the fields of conservation, floral design, landscaping, horticulture, environmental issues and other related subjects.

Come as a guest! Stay as a member!

The Mount Prospect Historical Society has documented "Pandemic Moments" from across the Village.  Click below to read how we coped during this time.
Pandemic Moments

2020, A Year of Adaptation
Who would have thought that our lives could change so drastically in just one short month?
The Garden Club of Mount Prospect met in person for the last time on March 11, 2020. Plans for the rest of Spring 2020 were canceled, including the May fundraiser and June road trip. The community plant sale morphed into a member front porch plant sale while gardeners took turns and maintained social distancing while working at the Arlene Prchal Butterfly Garden and Mount Prospect Historical Society.
But gardeners believe in growth and renewal. The club has planned another year of outstanding monthly programs.
We have met virtually since the fall and hope to enjoy, in person, our June road trip to the Anderson Japanese Gardens in Rockford.
